Drinking Aloe

Aloe Vera Juice

This was my first time drinking aloe vera juice. Of course I did not sip it on my first taste.  I had to take a big gulp and swished it all around in my mouth.  Was I ever surprised, Its taste is very distinct—-strong and bitter—-reminds me of vinegar. If you decide to drink aloe juice, you should follow the suggested use label’s instructions and mix it with another juice or smoothie.  I probably will continue to drink aloe juice to detoxify and cleanse my digestive system.  And, I will be mixing it with fresh-squeezed juice.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2017

Got2bGina-Sporting-Pink-300x225October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Imagine this scenario—then ask yourself a simple question…  You are enjoying a girl’s night out with eight ladies who are your family members or perhaps friends from high school or college, and one of them ask for the groups attention.  She tearfully tells the group that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and needs their friendship and support more than ever.  Everyone’s high-spirited emotions suddenly changed.  According to “About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.”

Are you committed to supporting the cure of breast cancer?

The fight is still on, and we must continue to hope and believe that we can win.  Read “U.S. Breast Cancer Statistics” posted on and share it with your mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, colleagues, friends, and neighbors.  Be strong—wear pink—educate others, and most important, make a commitment to support the cure for breast cancer.

Ready to Shed Some Pounds?

I am sure it has crossed your mind how you will shed those pounds you put on from the festivities of Super Bowl 51.  You have enjoyed the festivities to include the beer, wings, chicken quesadilla, and pizza.  Now, let me share some slim down ideas that may work for you.imagesa3hdr8om

Personally, I believe that most diets will work if you are committed to following them.  And, if you do something long enough, or for 21 days, it becomes a habit.  This is where your actions will require great discipline.

For the record, I am in favor of all weight loss programs:  Shape Fast, Weight Watchers, Weight Not, or Nutrisystem.  These programs work and they all recommend eating less food to lose weight.  I am giving a shout out to my friend and owner of Shape Fasther weight loss program really works.  You may also want to use an appetite suppressant to help curb your food cravings.  Some people do not like to use appetite suppressants, and, instead, prefer natural supplements.  Check out Got2bGina’s Herbal and Wellness Center if you prefer natural supplements that work.  I know that Nature’s Sunshine Products (NSP) are of the highest quality and the most effective herbal supplements.  I have tried many different brands of natural supplements and none of them compare to NSP.tablet

I also suggest buying a little pocket-size tablet to record everything that you eat or drink.  Keep it on your desk at work, in your pocket or purse, or in a visible compartment in your car.  It is important to record what you put in so that you do not forget and overindulge.  Whatever number of calories or points that your weight loss program recommends that is what you should consume.  If you drink a cup of coffee, tea or water, then write it down!  I suggest that you do not add sugar or cream to your coffee or tea because they are diet killers—hidden little calories that add up. Try eliminating sugar and cream from your diet even if you are not trying to lose weight, and increase your water consumption.

Last, whatever diet program you choose, I suggest you try to incorporate additional movement and exercise daily. You can now take a yoga class online, walk, belly dance, run, or lift weights.  It does not matter what you do, Just Do It!

5 Things Deteriorating Your Health

As you grow older you may notice that you pay more attention to your body because it is changing and requires maintenance. You will notice that your body cannot take as much punishment and neglect as it used to. If you really think about it, you probably picked up a lot of bad habits when you were younger and they are showing their effects on your body. It does not take a rocket scientist to know that the longer a habit is around the harder it is to drop it. The changes you are feeling or seeing do not necessarily mean they are from your bad habits. They could possibly just be from what you have not been doing.

Here are a five things that could be preventing you from a healthy life.

  1. Irregular or inadequate sleeping pattern

We need 8 to 9 hours of sleep each day.

There are many adverse effects not being properly rested can have on your health and life. Being drowsy makes you unproductive, forgetful, clumsy, agitated, amplifies stress, deteriorates your social environment and your ability to properly function within it. Did you know that chronic insomnia or chronic lack of sleep due to poor decision-making harms your immune system and makes you susceptible to all kinds of illnesses? It is important to get 7 to 9 hours of sleep daily.

  1. Lack of water intake

I wrote about the importance of drinking water. Did you read my blog post titled, I Am Still Thirsty…? Water makes up to 60 percent of your body weight, and we lose water through urination, breathing, sweating and so on, each day. The optimal water intake daily is 3 liters of fluids for adult males, and 2 liters for adult females.

  1. Extreme or prolonged stress

For lots of us, work is the most common source of stress but not the only one. Stress can be the cause of many psychological and physical issues to include anxiety, diabetes, asthma, and gastrointestinal problems. I am not qualified to give you medical advice; however, when things start getting out of hand it is time to put your health first.

  1. Smoking

What is cool today could affect your health tomorrow.

It has been 20 years since I was delivered from smoking. I needed help, as I could not quit the habit on my own. We all know smoking is an addictive habit and it destroys our health. It is even more destructive if you are a passive smoker. Smoking and second-hand smoke can cause many types of cancer.

  1. Having a bad diet

Just because it’s good to you does not make it good for you.

We need to cut back on eating junk or fast food and start eating healthy. Let’s give our body quality nutrition by adopting a diet that will make us feel good, energetic, and healthy.

These are just a few things we can do to increase our wellbeing. Although they do require  effort on our part, nobody can look out for your health better than you. Do you have a suggestion of what we could do to adopt a healthier life style?

Baby it’s Cold Outside

Tips to Survive the Frigid Winter

  • Wash Your Hands. Keeping your hands clean can stop germs from spreading. I keep antibacterial handy to sanitize throughout the day. Washing your hands is one of the easiest, most effective ways to avoid getting sick.
  • Stay Hydrated. Drink water!
  • Fill up on Fruits and Vegetables. A nutrient-rich diet is the best defense against sickness of any kind. You will get the essential vitamins if you are eating a wide variety of nutrient-rich fruit and vegetables like apples, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, kale, pumpkin, and sweet potato.
  • Get Outside. Yes, try to get outside in the sunshine and fresh air at least once a day. Your body needs vitamin D and getting outside is a sure way to replenish it.
  • Exercise. A regular workout routine will boost your immune system, improve your mood, and raise your energy levels.
  • Stay Positive. You can beat the winter blues if you are active and doing things that you love. So, get outside and take a walk through the neighborhood. Now is a great time because you can enjoy your neighbors Christmas decorations and lights. Try visiting your elderly neighbors to see if there is something you can do for them. Giving is very rewarding.

Time to Cleanse or Detox

What does it mean to cleanse or detox? To cleanse means to treat (the body or an organ) with a regimen intended to remove impurities and promote health. For example, I drank vegetable and fruit juice for a week to cleanse my digestive system. I believe we all know of some sort of cleansing regimen or have used a cleanse to rid our bodies of impurities or toxins. However, I cannot say one cleanse or detox regiment is better than another since the ingredients in one cleanse may work well for one individual but not so well for another. Our bodies are different and will require different cleansing regimens. What I do know is cleansing is good for your physical and emotional well-being. While cleansing rids the body of toxins or impurities, it clears the mind and sharpens your concentration.

sunshineherbs-aloeTraditional Chinese medicine will recommend that you cleanse your body with the change of season: winter, spring, summer, and fall. Every season correlates to different “elements” or organ systems in the body. For example, winter correlates with the water element and the kidneys or bladder system. From a Western naturopathic perspective, cold weather can put stress on your adrenal and thyroid glands, which tends to make the blood more acidic and causes a buildup of lactic acid. This can lead to sluggishness, muscle and joint pain, and arthritis.1 My acupuncturist recently explained to me the importance of cleansing with the change of season. This means we should try to cleanse at least four times a year.

A cleanse can last for as many days as you like, providing you are well and under a physician’s care. The longest that I have cleansed is ten days. I usually have reached my desired results within ten days. The mental clarity that I gain from cleansing is phenomenal. Just remember to gradually start and end your cleanse. In other words, start removing meat, fish or heavy foods from your diet. Next, you can remove lentils, vegetables and fruit. You should not consume any processed food. Within three to five days, your body should be prepared to only receive a liquid diet of juice or broth. And, when you resume to your normal diet you should gradually add food starting with fruits, vegetables, lentils, fish, and meat. You see, a cleanse could last about 20 days when you consider the preparation time. You do not have to do a liquid only cleanse—that is what I do. Click on this link for a 7-day detox plan that you may find helpful. This is just an example of a detox or cleanse. Try different cleanse regimens until you find the one that works for you.2

Our bodies already have its own detox system and there’s no need to spend on expensive treatments and products. A better and more sustainable investment in your #health would be to eat more natural foods, cut back on sugar, salt, additives, caffeine and alcohol and follow the 80/20 rule of sticking to a healthy diet most the time and allowing yourself the occasional treat.3
